On Friday night, October 23, before South Hills High School’s football team prepares to take on Arlington Heights, and Green B. Trimble Technical High School plays Western Hills, two of the Fort Worth Independent School District’s leading culinary programs will have their own heated competition. South Hills’ Culinary Arts Academy students and Trimble Tech’s Culinary Arts students will participate in the first ever Fit Foods Face-off Healthy Tailgate Competition. The teams will be out to prove that you can score big before the game with tasty tailgate fare that is also good for you.
Students from both programs will set up before their respective football games and present a healthy tailgate featuring menu items that meet the Blue Zones Healthy Dish Guidelines. Anywhere from 30 to 100 students will participate in the cooking challenge. Mystery judges, comprised of area food critics, ISD staff, and local personalities, will visit both tailgate locations before the games and judge each for taste, presentation, creativity in menu development, and adherence to the healthy guidelines. The winner will be announced by halftime and awarded the coveted Fit Foods Face-Off Golden Spatula trophy.
The Fit Foods Face-off is presented by the city’s well-being and healthy city initiatives, Blue Zones Project and FitWorth, in collaboration with the Fort Worth Independent School District. South Hills will be set up at South Hills High School from 4:45-5:15 p.m.; Trimble Tech will be at Trimble Tech High School during the same time. Parents, teachers, students and fans of each school are invited to attend their respective tailgate and see for themselves how healthy foods and football can be a winning combination.
Details: Friday, October 23, 2015; Judging will take place at Trimble Tech at 4:45 p.m. and at South Hills High School at 5:15 p.m.
