Daggett Middle School students returning to campus this month will discover that their school is making the grade when it comes to healthy choices, thanks to Blue Zones Project and Fidelity Investments.
More than 30 Fidelity Investments employees joined Daggett students, staff, partners, and local Blue Zones Project team members on July 26 to spruce up the campus for its back-to-school debut. Volunteers created various “Power 9® Zones” throughout the school, encouraging principles that promote better health and well-being.
The Right Tribe Zone in the main office welcomes students and visitors in every language spoken on campus. Daggett’s cafeteria has been transformed into a Plant Slant Zone, with colorful murals, nutritional information, and a Share Table where students can swap whole fruit and unopened snacks rather than discard them, thus reducing food waste. Additional murals brighten the surroundings in school hallways and bathrooms with colorful, positive messages. Outside, the Move Naturally Zone features brightly painted four square, hopscotch, and oversized game areas.
Volunteers also furnished and decorated a Downshift Zone that promotes relaxation through yoga and other activities, and installed signage for the school’s new Family First resource room, which will hold classes and facilitate parent involvement. Still in the works is a food pantry, the first in a Fort Worth ISD school to offer fresh produce.
The project is part of Fidelity Investments’ commitment to volunteering and support of Fort Worth ISD schools and Blue Zones Project’s work to make Fort Worth one of the nation’s healthiest cities. With these and other efforts, Daggett Middle School is on its way to becoming a Blue Zones Project Approved™ school—adopting practices and principles linked to longer, better lives and enhanced academic success.
Since 2014, Blue Zones Project has teamed with schools, businesses, organizations, community leaders, individuals, and families to make healthy choices easier. More than 89,000 residents and 300+ businesses and organizations have taken steps proven to improve community well-being. Fort Worth is the nation’s largest certified Blue Zones Community.
