Staying safe means maintaining physical distance during this difficult time, but social connections are more important than ever. Blue Zones Project Fort Worth is working with community partners to connect services, deliver necessary resources, and support both physical and social well-being under this new normal.
Food Access
For some in our community, economic hardships make access to food a major concern, and Blue Zones Project community partners are stepping up. Z’s Café and Catering is delivering 4,000 meals a week to Fort Worth ISD families. Tarrant Area Food Bank is also hard at work distributing one million meals a week to families in need via school-based food pantries and community and faith-based organizations. Fort Worth ISD has changed its “Meals To Go” initiative to a twice-a-week schedule to provide six meals per child on each distribution day, increasing the program’s efficiency. Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County is now distributing meals, food and snacks from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth also provides Grab & Go meals for pickup from 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at its various locations. Many other churches, non-profits agencies, and community centers are also stepping up. Blue Zones Project is proud to support all of these organizations and applauds the many volunteers and donors contributing to these efforts.
Virtual Connections
What’s good for the mind is also good for the body, and right now staying connected is the key to well-being for many of us. Blue Zones Project is busy reformatting its traditional on-site well-being workshops with virtual presentations that promote Power 9 lifestyle principles. In March, our new “Blue Zones Project 10 at 10” activities made their debut on Facebook. These online events offer opportunities for social connectivity and personal enrichment by dedicating ten minutes to yoga, mindfulness, sidewalk exercises and other low-cost activities—Monday through Friday at 10 a.m. If you don’t have time to tune in, many of these can be found on our YouTube channel.
As families deal with new realities of being together 24/7, Blue Zones Project Fort Worth is also supporting children who are home from school, offering online resources and books that tie in with community-wide literacy efforts. In some cases, books for children are being distributed along with food.
Blue Zones Project Fort Worth is proud to partner with the many organizations and individuals making a difference in our community’s time of need. We applaud the heroic efforts of those on the front lines. It is just another demonstration of what can only be described as “the Fort Worth way.”
