Did you know May is National Bike Month? What a great reason to get out on a bike and #MoveNaturally on two wheels. Moving Naturally is one of the Blue Zones Project Power 9® principles for living longer and better. People who live the longest in the original Blue Zones® areas aren’t super-endurance athletes. They live in environments that constantly encourage them to move without thinking about it.
To start your own natural movement, strap on your helmet and get rolling.
- Try out one of Fort Worth’s numerous bike trails, such as Sansom Park, the Trinity Trails, or Cobb Park.
- Consider riding your bike to a nearby restaurant instead of driving, or go for a ride in a local park after dinner.
- Teach your kids how to a ride a bike. Be a role model. Children who regularly see their parents enjoying sports and physical activity are more likely to do so themselves.
- Getting active is more fun when you have company. Establish a regular time to bike with a group of friends and build social connections while you ride to improve your health.
- Friday, May 19 is National Bike to Work Day. Suggested bike routes and refresher stations can be found at gov/biketowork.
