Get ready to hit the new year on two wheels with Fort Worth Bike Sharing and Free First Fri-YAY! Free bike rentals will again be offered throughout Fort Worth on the first Friday of every month throughout 2023, courtesy of Blue Zones Project.

Free First Fri-YAY is designed to encourage people to get outside and move naturally. This will be the fourth year the free all-day passes will be available.

“Whether you’re an avid cyclist or a casual rider, Free First Fri-YAY offers a great way to stay active and explore Fort Worth,” said Matt Dufrene, vice president of Blue Zones Project Fort Worth, a community well-being improvement initiative led locally by North Texas Healthy Communities (the outreach arm of Texas Health Resources). “You can commute to work or school on the city’s bike lanes, take care of errands, or just ride around Fort Worth’s network of trails. And if you’re riding with friends or loved ones, that’s another great way to boost well-being.”

To access the free Bike Share passes, use promo code 92020APP on the BCycle app when checking out a bike at more than 60 Fort Worth Bike Sharing stations located around Fort Worth. (Check out the station map on the Fort Worth Bike Sharing website.) You can also use promo code 92020 at many of the kiosks. Bikes must be docked back in and checked out every two hours to avoid accruing extra charges.

During the past year, Fort Worth Bike Sharing has added four new stations and more than a dozen BCycle bikes, including 10 new electric bikes. A number of classic bikes have been added featuring colorful, custom-painted designs by local artist Gerald Bell, as part of FWBS’s #fwbikesy social media blitz, with more of Bell’s bikes ready to be released in 2023.

“There are so many beautiful trails and neighborhoods to explore in Fort Worth and what better way to do that than cycling around this great city with friends and family?” said Shawn Tubre, director of Fort Worth Bike Sharing. “More and more people are discovering that cycling is a great transportation alternative, too, and this program makes our bikes more accessible to the community.”

Free First Fri-YAY was more popular than ever in 2022, with more than 600 free bike share passes claimed. Since the program began in 2020, Free First Fri-YAY has provided 1,187 full-day ride passes.
