This May, Blue Zones Project hosted community kick-offs in different neighborhoods throughout the city. Thank you to all who participated, including Council Members Ann Zadeh, Kelly Allen Gray, Sal Espino, and Mayor Betsy Price. Diamond Hill’s Kick-Off Event was on Cinco de Mayo where 500+ participants came to celebrate culture, health, and community. Family-friendly activities such as Zumba, golf with First Tee of Fort Worth, soccer with Diamond Hill Jarvis coaches, football drills with DHNS Little Leagues. Healthy food samples were provided by local restaurant, Sabor De Mar and free fresh fruit was provided by Carnival. Residents also had the opportunity to receive free health screenings and sign up for library cards. The evening concluded with a beautiful performance by Ballet Folklorico de Fort Worth.

The Riverside Kick-Off at Riverside Park was a huge success, and the community enjoyed cooking demonstrations, boxing, and Kung-Fu presentations, health screenings, and workouts by Silver Sneakers. Bounce Houses, face painting, hammocks, and walking trails kept neighborhood kids active and moving. Fresh fruit and healthy food options were also enjoyed. The event ended with Downshifting while listening to the Omar Parrilla Band.
Participants at the Northside Kick-Off enjoyed cooking demonstrations and healthy foods from Chef Juan Rodriguez of Magdalena’s. The afternoon also included free health screenings, fresh fruit giveaways, gardening tips from Lowe’s, and a variety of “Moving Naturally” activities including games, golf with the First Tee, and bounce houses. The afternoon ended with a fabulous performance from Mariachi Mexicanisimo which had everyone learning dance moves.

The Get Up, Get Out, and Get Moving District 8 Kick-Off at Hillside Community Center was a huge success with 250+ families who gathered for a fun day party. Over 60 volunteers attended representing various sororities and fraternities, and several sponsors donated jump ropes and healthy beverages. Kids learned golf skills with First Tee, made kites, gained basketball skills with House of Hustle, and even met a pro-football player! Adults wobbled, practiced yoga, and participated in a Zumba demonstration with Mayor Price and Council Member Kelly Allen Gray.
