Foodland continues its commitment to providing healthy choices for the people of Hawaii by expanding the number of Blue Zones Project Approved™ grocery stores across the state from six to 11 locations. In partnership with the Hawai‘i Medical Service Association (HMSA), Foodland is one step closer to achieving Blue Zones Project approval for all 33 locations statewide!
This past year, 2017, was a year of growth for Blue Zones Project - Hawaii. We officially launched new communities in Central Maui and West Hawaii as well as began work in Kapolei-Ewa, Manoa-Makiki-McCully-Moiliili, and Wahiawa. Take a look at our 2017 accomplishments!

Guy Hauanio, a security guard at Keaau High School, was first inspired by the Blue Zones® story at work, where he first learned about Blue Zones Project®. After hearing the presentation, he decided to incorporate a plant-based diet into his lifestyle. Though it was difficult giving up kalua pig, lau lau, and other local favorites, Guy made small changes to begin eating smarter and healthier. Now, he chooses whole foods and vegetables and cooks with water instead of oil.
