Expansion from 3 to 8 communities statewide
This past year, 2017, was a year of growth for Blue Zones Project - Hawaii. We officially launched new communities in Central Maui and West Hawaii as well as began work in Kapolei-Ewa, Manoa-Makiki-McCully-Moiliili, and Wahiawa. Take a look at our 2017 accomplishments!
People
- In 2017, we held a community kickoff for West Hawaii and a kickoff week for Central Maui with approximately 4,900 participants
- In total, 2,916 individuals participated in a Purpose Workshop and 2,432 individuals participated in a Walking Moai group
- In 2017, an additional 8,417 individuals have been engaged (for a total of 14,437)
- In total, over 10,000 individuals signed a personal pledge to improve their personal well-being through Blue Zones Project

- Foodland expands family of Blue Zones Project Approved™ stores (11 grocery stores approved)
- Early progress in new communities
- Statewide, we passed the 100 approved organizations mark with 106 organizations approved as of 3/1/2018!

Supported the Tobacco Free Coalition of Maui in passing a bill to regulate “Smoke Free Cars for Keiki”
- Passed a Honolulu City Council resolution supporting Complete Streets
- Have now passed Blue Zones Project resolutions island-wide on all 3 islands we work on (Hawaii Island, Maui, Oahu)
