Meet Brendon Johnson!

Brendon is the Youth Sports Director at, Shawnee Family YMCA, a Blue Zones Project Approved Worksite.

We asked Brendon what his favorite Power 9 Principle is and other questions below.

Brendon said Right Tribe. "It stood out to me because I'm all about surrounding or, being surrounded by those who support you, believe, and also push you to be a better individual. Whether that is physically, spiritually, or emotionally. I try to be that person for anyone that I'm around so they have that "right tribe" feeling and know someone is there for encouragement."

Why do you believe you were nominated?

"I believe I was suggested because of my role here at the YMCA, not tooting my own horn, but I work really well with the youth and building them through the sports programs here. Not only building them as good athletes but as people who are good at heart and helpful-minded."

What does #BlackHistoryMonth mean to you?

"Black History Month is important to me because it's just who I am. Growing up my family showed their strength through being just themselves. A person of color. I tend to rely on the strength that I have learned from them when times are tough. Most of that strength when I am weak goes into trusting Jesus and I believe that's what was taught to me by my family. Today's view in some areas of course doesn't shine on black people as much as they should but that is what this month is for. It should be more than a month but it's still a month that is dedicated to those throughout history who have paved the way for me and also my family/friends along with many more people. It's a great month indeed."

We are grateful to have connected with Brendon to help us better understand why well-being is so important to his life radius. Thank you, Brendon, for being a leader within your organization and community! We also appreciate Approved Worksite, Shawnee Family YMCA for valuing your employees and their wellness!
