Main & Bryan Crosswalk art project

Blue Zones Project—Pottawatomie County, in partnership with Absentee Shawnee Housing Authority; Community Renewal Friendship House; the City of Shawnee; and local indigenous artist, art curator, and educator Tony A. Tiger facilitated the installation of a painted crosswalk on July 24thThe purpose of the newly painted crosswalk is to build community pride, establish a sense of place, and encourage traffic calming. This eye-catching public art installation serves to improve the built environment for everyone, especially the student pedestrians walking to Pleasant Grove School.

New Team Member: Suhaila Nease

The Blue Zones Project Staff is happy to welcome Suhaila Nease to the team!

Suhaila Nease is proud to step into the role as Blue Zones Project Organization Lead. The Organization Lead role is responsible for the successful advancement of Blue Zones Project locally through engaging the community in worksites, schools, restaurants, grocery stores, faith-based organizations, civic groups, small businesses, and other organizations. Being raised in Shawnee, Oklahoma by a large, loving family with five siblings, she knows the value that close relationships with friends and family can provide. How do we add that one of her value’s as a new team member is the relationships in the community she brings with her that we don’t already have and how she strengthens the ones we do.Her love for the people in her life leads her to encourage her friends and family to lead more active and healthy lifestyles. She has a love for the outdoors and enjoys hiking, fishing, and bike riding. Suhaila has an associate degree from Rose State College in Environmental Science and is pursuing a concurrent bachelor's and master's degree at Oklahoma State University with a focus in conservation and natural resource management. She has a diverse career background that has included sales, management, civil drafting, and tribal historic preservation, Suhaila is excited to bring that zest for life to the Shawnee community.
