To celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth we interviewed local well-being champions and leaders within our community.

Meet Rachelle Jones!

Rachelle Jones BHM2

Rachelle Jones is a Caretaker. "I take care of my 82-year-old Dad and have done so the last six years, after his bouts with cancer.  He is blessed to be 5 years cancer-free."

She also serves as a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Shawnee and has served as outreach coordinator for three years and still supports the ministry now. Rachelle has been actively involved in Dunbar Heights' activities such as the downtown Juneteenth celebration in 2021. She also loves to support Community Renewal whenever possible.

What Power9 is your favorite, or that you feel is most representative?

"Loved Ones First and Belonging. My Mom and Dad have always been the rock in our family. They have always been supportive and I wanted to do the same for them in their later years."

Why is Black History Month important to you?

"It is a time to be reminded of the contributions that African Americans have made to society and continue to do so. It also is a time to gather and celebrate our culture and heritage in a positive, constructive, uplifting manner, with each other and other cultures, that may not ever get to experience us, without a coordinated assembly."

We are grateful to have connected with Rachelle to help us better understand why well-being is so important to her life radius. Thank you, Rachelle, for being a leader within your community!
