To celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth we interviewed local well-being champions and leaders within our community.

Meet Yolanda!

Yolanda S. Thomas-Harvey Retail Operations Manager and AVP at First National Bank and Trust Co. an Approved Worksite. Outside of work, she volunteers her time at the Legacy Parenting Center where she mentors, and volunteers in the diaper room. 

We asked Yolanda which of the Power 9 principles were meaningful to her, and why. Below is her response.                                                                                                                                                     

Purpose: "Each day, my purpose is to work on mentoring individuals within my organization with tools and resources to make sound risk free decisions. Be a leader within my circle of people that I associate with from loving Christ, to empowering relationships and marriages to last, and to never meet a stranger. Talk to everyone!"

Family First: "They fall into my purpose. They motivate my reasons for doing what I do daily."

Belong: To a faith-based community: "It ignites my purpose."                                                                

Right Tribe: They help me to fulfill my purpose with connectivity and communication.

We also asked Yolanda to explain what #BlackHistoryMonth means to her.

"It’s important to me because it is a huge part of my heritage. I am African American. It’s a month of reflection set aside to commemorate the importance of why our history is relevant. During this month, the visions of stereotypes diminish and the light of the contributions to society surface.  We remember what those who came before us did to make life easier for people today. However, I believe this is for every human being. Someone from the past has always made it better for the present, and it expands into the future."
