Meet Blue Zones Project Champion, Cheryl
Cheryl Dung has quickly become one of the Blue Zones Project – 4M regulars. As a resident of Makiki, she has explored all the Power 9® longevity lessons by participating in community events across the Mānoa-Makiki-McCully-Mōʻiliʻili region. We are grateful to have supporters like Cheryl!

How have you gotten involved in Blue Zones Project?
Iʻve joined a walking moai, attended cooking demos, tried a yoga and meditation class, volunteered at a Christmas lunch for kūpuna and tried the Biki bike rides.
What was your experience like riding Biki?
Fun, exciting and a little scary. I’ve never ridden a bike on the road with cars. I signed up for another class at Ala Moana Beach Park to learn more. Best part... it’s free!
What did you learn?
I learned that I can ride a bike! This was a great experience and definitely worth trying. It is set up so all levels can participate. If you are really not comfortable on a bike you don’t have to go out on the road. Some participants stayed in the parking lot to practice.

What is your favorite Blue Zones Power 9 lesson and why?
Right Tribe. I love being part of a walking moai. I’ve figured out that walking with others makes a huge difference because walking alone means you can quit or take it too easy. Blue Zones Project has also made me more aware of my diet. Plant-based living is not hard to do!
