The Local

IMG_2511.jpgNaples restaurant The Local found that Blue Zones Project’s emphasis on plant-based foods aligns with its goal of supporting local and organic agriculture while bringing the most nutrition to guests. “Blue Zones Project is a natural fit for The Local, as we love being able to improve the well-being and healthy eating of our community,” said Jeff Mitchell, owner and chef of The Local. The restaurant became Blue Zones Project Approved™ by serving farm-to-fork vegan recipes, such as assorted salads and its Kung Pao dish—— organic brown rice, bell peppers, onion, cilantro, cashews with lemongrass, garlic, and ginger to season.

 Organizations

The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce

IMG_2462.jpgTo achieve Blue Zones Project recognition, the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce promoted volunteer opportunities in the community, became a tobacco-free organization, and began offering healthy snacks at staff meetings. The Chamber also implemented a Walking Moai® program—in which a small group walks together to stay active and build social bonds. According to Michael Dalby, president and CEO, “The Walking Moai has been fun and a great way to get to know one another. While our office is relatively small, we rarely have time to talk about things other than work. The Walking Moai has brought us together and helped us be healthier, more collegial, and more thoughtful as a team.”

 Island Coast Dentistry

To achieve Blue Zones Project recognition, Island Coast Dentistry shared plant-based recipes among the office staff, challenged one another to adopt a regular exercise habit—such as taking a yoga class, joining a Walking Moai®,  or playing pickleball—andcommited to meeting once a month outside the office to enhance social connectedness.

Women of the (239)

Women of the (239) began incorporating Blue Zones practices as part of its health and wellness initiative. The organization offered vegetarian options at monthly meetings, formed a health and wellness committee, invited Blue Zones Project representatives to speak, and included Blue Zones Project tips for better well-being in member communications.

Village Walk of Naples

To achieve Blue Zones Project recognition, Village Walk of Naples hosted a Blue Zones Project Purpose Workshop to help residents connect with their talents and passions, began a Walking Moai® program—small groups of indiviudals who walk together—and put in bike racks around its facilities to encourage natural movement and activity.

Naples Heirtage Golf & Country Club

To achieve Blue Zones Project recognition, Naples Heritage Golf & Country Club included bike racks for members around the community, made the pool deck and clubhouse a smoke-free area, offered plant-based cooking classes, and facilitated volunteer opportunities at various non-profit organizations. Amy Gant, administrative assistant at Naples Heritage Golf & Country Club stated, “Naples Heritage is an active and involved community, and Blue Zones Project takes our commitment to well-being to the next level.”
