Let's Celebrate!
Achieving Blue Zones Project® Approval takes everyone’s support. Congratulations to the following organizations for becoming Blue Zones Project recognized!
Organizations
The Community of Bonita Bay

To achieve Blue Zones Project recognition, Bonita Bay implemented a variety of best practices for longevity, such as adding bike racks at the Bonita Bay Community Center and in its three parks to encourage residents to be active. The Community Center cut back on offerings of sugar-laden beverages and hosted well-being events like chair yoga, tai chi, dance classes, and health seminars. In addition, Bonita Bay held plant-based cooking demonstrations, including Breakfasts You Want to Eat, Healthy Holiday Meals, Daily Tweaks for Longevity, and Raw Foods for Rookies. The community also has more than 12 miles of walking paths.
“When we began to explore the concept of Blue Zones Project, we quickly realized it’s a natural fit for our residents,” stated Jennifer Moening, assistant director of community activities. “.Bonita Bay is a thriving, active community, and Blue Zones Project gives us the tools and resources to take well-being to an even higher level.”
Fiddler's Creek

To achieve Blue Zones Project recognition, Fiddler’s Creek implemented a variety ofbest practices designed to enhance longevity, such as becoming a smoke-free environment, adding bike racks, and promoting volunteer opportunities for its members. The community also launched a Walking Moai, a small group that plans regular walks together to stay healthy and build social bonds.
“Each week, we would embark on a half hour walk throughout our community, and after the walk we invited our group to enjoy a glass wine at one of Fiddler’s Creek’s dining venues,” stated Tracy Heimerl, director of fitness and wellness at Fiddler’s Creek. “At the conclusion of the ten-week program, the members saw no reason to end what, for many, had become the highlight of their week,” Heimerl added. “Blue Zones Project inspired our residents to continue enjoying new friendships alongside a healthful activity.”
Greater Naples Fire Rescue District

To achieve Blue Zones Project recognition, The Greater Naples Fire Rescue Districtbegan Walking Moais, removed unhealthy snacks, like doughnuts from their meetings, and had their resident Chef, Captain Craig Weinbaum, incorporate healthy, plant-based recipes into the newsletter.
The mission of The Greater Naples Fire Rescue District is to protect life and property by providing emergency response services and education for Southwest Florida residents, businesses and visitors of our community. With this in mind, they felt that it was crucial for their employees to focus on their physical and mental health to prepare for the demands placed upon them and their families.
