To celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth we interviewed local well-being champions and leaders within our community.
Meet Richard!
Richard Edward Brown is the Human Resources Director for Citizen Potawatomi Nation, and was a Big 12 Conference Football Official. He is also the chairman of the Central Oklahoma Workforce Innovation Board, a Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, and a Past Chair of the Central Oklahoma Human Resources Association.
We asked Richard which of the Power 9 principles were meaningful to him, and why? Below is his response.
Family First: "Family has been the backbone of my success. Family will stand beside you when no one else will. They’re there to love and support you regardless of the situation, win or lose, good or bad. Our belief as a family is to always put faith first, family and love for self."
We also asked Richard to explain what #BlackHistoryMonth means to him.
"It helps me to remember how we got to where we are today in America. I am where I am because of the blood, sweat and tears of those before me. That keeps me humble. It also lets me know we have a long ways to go and are not where we need to be as a country. Seeing the events across America over the past year and years before, that lets me know we need to get back the principles taught to us by leaders of yesterday. In Black history those leaders leaned on a great belief in God and him getting us to the promise land. You can’t look to far without seeing our ancestors beliefs, were built on faith. We have kept God at the forefront of our growth and progress. Faith, hope and love have been talked about throughout the history of America in the black community and in our households. This month always gives us a renewed faith like those before us that we as a people are important to the history of this country".
We are so grateful to have connected with Richard to help us better understand why well-being is so important to his life radius. Thank you, Richard, for being a leader within your organization and community! We also appreciate Approved Worksite Citizen Potawatomi Nation for valuing your employees and their wellness!
