Kalanianaole Elementary & Intermediate School students helped produce a Honeybee Education display to bring awareness of what's new in their school garden. Ala Wai Elementary School's Walk to School Day was designed to promote pedestrian safety, social connection and physical activity. Maui Hui Malama decorated paper bags, filled them with healthy foods and delivered them to kupuna in the community.

Along with Youth Service America, we gave out over $7,000 to 36 different organizationssports teams, classrooms, community groups, and nonprofits—and together, over 3,500 youth were engaged in various service activities. All of our communities were represented in the program, and our participants ranged in ages, from preschoolers to college students. Collectively, these projects directly impacted over 9,000 people, and indirectly supported thousands more.

“The Serve in September mini-grant and Blue Zones Project’s support during the planning process really helped our school garden service project. The financial assistance allowed me to take this project to a whole new level and leave a lasting impact on the students at Ka‘ahumanu Elementary School and the rest of the community.”
