ARE YOU READY TO TRACK YOUR TREK?

On Jan. 28 Blue Zones Project- Southwest Florida will launch a free, community-wide step challenge. ‘Track Your Trek’ is an opportunity for everyone to participate in a healthy competition to kick-off the new year. Walkers will track their steps for 10 weeks and then celebrate their accomplishments with Blue Zones Project on April 3, National Walking Day. The goal is for Southwest Florida to cumulatively walk the distance it takes to get to Loma Linda, California - one of the original Blue Zones locations.

NWD Image-2Walkers will be entered to win a grand prize of a two-night stay and spa package to the JW Marriott on Marco Island, and teams will be entered to win $2,000 worth of gift cards to Blue Zones Project Approved restaurants.

Although, solo walkers are welcome to participate in this challenge, Blue Zones Project encourages creating a group. “Walking with a group is not just about getting exercise or “moving naturally”, but it is also about avoiding loneliness and isolation,” stated Deb Logan, executive director of Blue Zones Project- Southwest Florida. “Framingham research has determined loneliness can shorten one’s lifespan up to eight years, while inclusion can be a lifesaver. So why not gather some friends, co-workers or neighbors and participate in this challenge together?”
