PARTICIPATING ORGANIZATIONS

Let's Celebrate!

Achieving Blue Zones Project Approved™ status is a wonderful accomplishment. Congratulations to the following organizations who are helping to make the healthy choice, the easier choice in SWFL.

Rick Saggese, owner of Think Outside the Diamond Sports Performance & Fitness, had this to say about becoming a Blue Zones Project recognized organization, "Blue Zones Project feeds right into everything we teach daily to our clients. We strive to educate and provide healthy exercises in order to foster overall wellness."

IMG_6363According to Steve Popper, CEO of Meals of Hope, they wanted to participate with Blue Zones Project because, "Hunger is a silent epidemic in Collier County. Children, seniors, the working poor, unemployed, documented and undocumented – people from all these groups experience food insecurity. In the Collier County School District 70.3% of all students participate in the Free and Reduced Breakfast and Lunch Program. That is more than 30,000 children. We recognize an unfortunate connection between obesity and poverty, and we feel it is our responsibility to serve healthy options (fresh fruits/vegetables and vitamin-fortified packaged meals) at our food pantries."

IMG_6411The Preserve at Corkscrew became a recognized homeowner's association on Dec. 13. To earn Blue Zones recognition, The Preserve became a tobacco-free site, added bike racks around the community, offered volunteer opportunities for their residents, and changed 50% of their vending to healthier options.
