To celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth we interviewed local well-being champions and leaders within our community.

Meet Nik!

Nik Turner FINAL

Nik Turner is the 6th grade Geography Teacher and Head High School Wrestling Coach at Shawnee Public Schools an Approved School and Worksite. "Just helping out wherever I can".

We asked Nik which of the Power 9 principles is meaningful to him, and why? Below is his response.

"I find the Purpose principle to be my favorite and most representative, because that is what I strive to do and encourage my students and athletes to do as well. Each of us has a purpose and it’s our job to find and fulfill it"!

Why do you believe you were recommended by your worksite?

"I believe I was selected because I am a positive black man in the community and society. I do my best to build the Shawnee community as a servant leader and inspire and encourage community members in doing good works with an altruistic spirit"!

We also asked Nik to explain what #BlackHistoryMonth means to him.

"Black History Month is important to me because it is a yearly, month long reminder of the sacrifices many great men and women made for a chance at equality. A reminder that there is much more work to be done, but also a great opportunity to celebrate how far we’ve come"!

We are so grateful to have connected with Nik to help us better understand why well-being is so important to his life radius. Thank you, Nik for being a leader within your organization and for the students in our community! We also appreciate Approved School and Worksite, Shawnee Public Schools for valuing your employees and worksite wellness!
