ROSEBURG VA CUTTING NUMBER OF SMOKE SHACKS

Officials with the Roseburg VA Healthcare System are getting ready to cut the number of “smoke shacks” on the VA campus in Roseburg in nearly half.

The small buildings are areas where employees or veterans living on the campus can go to smoke. Interim Director David Whitmer said a major change is on the way to the VA’s smoking policy. While the VA campuses at the VA Health Care Centers in Eugene, North Bend and Brookings are going total smoke free, Whitmer said the Veteran’s Health Care Act of 1992 requires the VA to allow smoking in designated areas, on campuses like Roseburg that house veterans.
