Meet Blue Zones Project Champion, HEATHER BESSEE
Heather Bessee, Kailua resident
"Blue Zones Project - Koolaupoko has had a powerful impact on my life since I moved back on island in September of 2017. The [second] week I returned, I [joined] a 10 -week Beach Clean-up Moai as the Team Leader. I met strong, like-minded folks and the best part is that we all brought our sons to the clean ups. We were not only able to clean up the beaches - Kualoa Beach, Waimanalo Beach, and Kailua Beach - we were able to use the experience as a teaching opportunity with [our] boys.
"I also participated in two Purpose Workshops and a Cooking Class at Castle Medical Center. Though I am a Dietitian I believe we can all eat more plant based foods and it is fun to learn new recipes and to try new foods! I believe that we can all make a huge impact on the environment and community by coming together to form groups with a common goal. I am excited that Blue Zones Project promotes events on the Windward side and provides opportunities for education, fun, purpose, and community bonding. I believe in volunteerism and community engagement and embrace the importance of sharing this passion with others. Blue Zones Project ties all of my passions -activity, food, health, well-being, relationships, and environmental responsibility - together."
