Start Your Day with Intention

Finding Purpose in These Uncertain Times

Each and every person has a different story to tell during our communities Stay-at-Home orders – maybe you have lost your job, now find yourself working from home, are juggling your kids virtual learning requirements with virtual conference calls, or find yourself marked as an essential employee.

One of the best tips to remember during these times is to not lose sight of what is important and accept that some days are going to be much better than others and celebrate what is going really well!

Setting Intentions

A great way to do this is to start your day with intention – by setting as few as three simple goals, it will allow you and your family unit to work towards having a purpose each day.

A few tips for success:

  • Write down your goals the night before or in the morning. This can be a fun breakfast activity that the family can decide together. It may be that you want to cook dinner together that evening or that you need 2 hours of quiet time to get school and work requirements completed. Communicating them with everyone in your house can help establish boundaries and ensure success!
  • Starting a gratitude journal can allow you to recognize the good things each day and change your mood! Sometimes in the hustle and bustle it’s hard to see the small wins but writing them down each day can help give you direction about what is most important to your happiness.
  • Don’t be too serious. While daily goal setting can see like just another task to complete, use it as a time to recognize you and your families’ needs. If you notice people are particularly stressed up, set up three fun goals for the day to make sure you are spending time together doing something everyone enjoys.

One of Blue Zones Project’s Power 9® principles includes having a sense of purpose. While having a life purpose can help add up to seven years to your life – it is equally important to recognize that during these uncertain times, your sense of purpose may have changed – and that’s okay! It’s okay to focus on different things right now but understanding why you get out of bed each day is an important step to keep yourself focused.
