Blue Zones Project - Mānoa-Makiki-McCully-Mō‘ili‘ili officially launched with a community kickoff celebration at the Varsity Building Parking Lot drawing over 500 community members!

We are so appreciative for the participation at our Blue Zones Project kickoff event this past Sunday. Mahalo nui for supporting us as we kickoff in Mānoa-Makiki-McCully-Mōʻiliʻili!

We kicked off our event with a welcome ceremony featuring Blue Zones founder, National Geographic fellow, and New York Times best-selling author Dan Buettner followed by a presentation of awards for Blue Zones Project Approved organizations and key partners: Kōkua Market, Honolulu Japanese Seventh-day Adventist Church, and Foodland Hawaiʻi.

Following the welcome ceremony, community members had the opportunity to learn more and participate in activities relating to the Power 9, sign up for upcoming events in the Mānoa-Makiki-McCully-Mōʻiliʻili region, and snack on ‘ono plant-based food. Attendees were also introduced to over 30 participating organizations sharing information on health and wellness.

- Plant Slant: Plant-based cooking presentations, free samples and food trucks were onsite selling Blue Zones inspired meals
- Move Naturally: Yoga and stretching classes were offered to all ages and abilities
- Downshift: Relaxation Lounge with tips on how to relax and de-stress with forest bathing techniques and aromatherapy
- Purpose: Sign-ups for free purpose workshops and volunteer events
- Right Tribe: Sign-ups for walking groups and environmental volunteer events
- Family First: Keiki Corner featured various games, art and activities for the whole family
- Wine @ 5: Wine tastings and special were offered throughout the afternoon at Beer Lab HI where guests could also hear the Blue Zones Story
- Blood Bank of Hawai‘i Bloodmobile was onsite for volunteers to offer to donate blood

Concluding our community kickoff was the 4M Leadership Team Reception and Blueprint Signing Ceremony. Community leaders from across the state came together to enjoy Wine @ 5 and plant-based pupus while discussing how to continue making Hawai‘i a healthier and happier place to live, work, and play.
