Laulima Food Patch celebrated this recognition with a ceremony beginning at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 8, at the restaurant, 75-1027 Henry St. There was a Blue Zones Project info booth and food samples from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Laulima Food Patch was created to offer food from scratch, using as much local produce and natural ingredients as much as possible to promote healthier lifestyles. The menu is designed to promote balance and controlled portions to weigh heavy on vegetables and less on meat. Laulima’s menu and vision aligns with everything the Blue Zones Project stands for, a focus on educating the community for healthier lifestyle choices.

The Wholey Protein at Laulima Food Patch became a Blue Zones Project Approved dish. The Wholey Protein is a locavore salad, packed with all local grown ingredients. The dish is on a bed of our house salad mix, mixed with wow farm tomatoes, azuki sprouts, tsukemono, black beans, dressed with our most deliciously addictive green goddess dressing.

Laulima Food Patch achieved Blue Zones Project Approved status by successfully adopting best practices that promote well-being, including:

  • Establishing strong partnerships with local farms island wide which allows the menu to showcase and share the nutritious local fruit and vegetables with customers.
  • Placing “education” at the core of everything they do to shape a healthier community.
  • Providing quarterly training and educational opportunities to staff.

Laulima Food Patch Approval Celebration

“It is really important for Laulima Food Patch to be a Blue Zones Project Approved Restaurant,” remarked, Bonita Lao, owner and chef. “Personally, I want to align myself with organizations that have the same passion and drive to create real change in our community. Working alongside the Blue Zones Project gives me confidence to encourage and promote better eating habits, leading to a better future that will challenge, motivate, and inspire our younger and older generations towards positive healthy change.”
