SUCCESSFUL START TO 2016

UH Hilo Ho'olaulea

What a terrific way to start the New Year off on the right foot! Blue Zones Project attended the UH Hilo Ho'olaulea for some "family first" fun! There was live entertainment, food and craft vendors, and a keiki zone filled with fun activities that allowed everyone to "move naturally".

In the keiki zone, families enjoyed their sunny Saturday with jumping castles, a water slide, a Velcro wall and even our Blue Zones Project Smoothie Bike - a stationary bike that operates a blender by pedaling! Families couldn't get enough of our fun and refreshing smoothies.

However, you don't need a smoothie bike to enjoy this delicious, healthy treat at home. Simply blend a banana with your favorite frozen berries, and a splash of almond milk.

Purpose Workshops

A Purpose Workshop was held on January 21st, at the Office of Aging in Hilo. Guests enjoyed talking story with their neighbors and discovering their gifts through the workshop's activities. We encourage you to attend a Purpose Workshop to discover or renew your true purpose - that unique thing that makes you your best. In fact, knowing your purpose could add up to 7 years to your life! Begin the new year by doing something important for you, so that you can start to live a happier, more fulfilling life.

We have two FREE Purpose Workshops coming up:

Gardening Demonstration

Having convenient access to fresh fruits and vegetables is the easiest way to incorporate more plant-based foods into your daily diet. Join Master Gardener Bill Miller on Wednesday, February 25, at Liliuokalani Park in Hilo to learn how to garden without breaking your back! Bill will teach you how to build your own raised-garden bed with your favorite fruits and vegetables. Raised-garden beds are very popular as they keep your plants safe from pests and are kinder on your back. A few lucky guests will also go home with potted plants and a starter garden! Be sure to RSVP below.

Gardening is common in all Blue Zones® areas, where people live the longest, healthiest lives. You, too, can garden your way to better health!

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 25

10 - 11 a.m.

Liliuokalani Park
Corner of Lihiwai Street and Banyan Drive
(Across Hilo Bay Cafe - 123 Lihiwai Street)
Hilo, HI 96720
