Plant-based pupus, wine samples, and two blue zones project approved restaurant celebrations
On July 23rd, Blue Zones Project - East Hawaii partnered with Hilo Hawaiian Hotel to host a successful Cooking Demo & Wine Pairing event!
Nearly 200 guests were in attendance (on a Monday evening!), including key community partners: State Department of Health, KKP School Complex representatives, Hospice/Hawaii Care Choices, UH Hilo, KTA, HI Island Chamber, Waiakea High School, and Hilo Medical Center to name a handful.
In addition to the cooking demo and wine pairing, we celebrated Hilo Hawaiian’s two restaurants—Queen's Court and Waioli Lounge— as they became Blue Zones Project Approved™, and highlighted Hilo Hawaiian’s accomplishments in front of community peers.
The first dish was an Eggplant Roulade paired with a Rose; the second dish was a zucchini pasta paired with a Garnacha. Food samples and the wine pairing were amazing (all plant-based of course)! Hilo Hawaiian also did a presentation on the benefits and history of each of the wines, which was fantastic. Attendees raved about the food and pairing samples. A number of attendees even said they’d be willing to pay to attend another event like this.
Mahalo to Greg Arianoff and his awesome team at Hilo Hawaiian for being a wonderful partner on this well-being journey! Be sure to check out their updated Blue Zones inspired menu items at Hilo Hawaiian’s Queen's Court and Waioli Lounge.
