Organic gardens at Beaver Dam Community Hospital have added a bit of home to the hospital setting, while allowing some flavorful dishes for those who enjoy the food prepared at the hospital.

Beaver Dam Community Hospital chef Kylie Peltier said there are over 600 meals prepared at the hospital daily. The gardens were created by former staff members four or five years ago, but have grown into a hit at the hospital.

The original garden is behind the hospital. Peltier said it is the largest and has gotten bigger through the years.

The program coincides with the wellness initiative the hospital began shortly before Blue Zones Project was launched. Blue Zones Project is a community well-being initiative sponsored by Beaver Dam Community Hospital.
