More than 60 attend MLK Day river clean-up

As she grasped a discarded pacifier with her trash grabber, Idleyld Park resident Trudy Walker said as long as your eyes are focused on the ground at Stewart Park, you’ll find trash to pickup.

Walker was one of more than 60 people who gathered at the park pavilion Monday morning for the Umpqua Watersheds river clean up in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

People armed with trash bags, rain boots and gloves scanned the banks of the South Umpqua River at Stewart and Gaddis parks to participate in the national day of service. Umpqua Watersheds partnered with several other local organizations such as Casa de Belen and Blue Zones Project for the event.
