A proposal to create an urban renewal district along Diamond Lake Boulevard and surrounding areas in East Roseburg was popular with those who spoke at a hearing before Roseburg City Council on Monday evening.

Property owners in the area said a renewal district would make it easier for them to develop their lands, including building affordable homes to ease the city’s housing shortage, while members of Bike/Walk Roseburg said the idea was a good one, but urged councilors to incorporate good bicycle and pedestrian pathways into the plan.
