Did you know, the rock formation over which Niagara Falls cascades, runs right into Wisconsin?
The Niagara Escarpment is a prominent rock ridge that spans nearly 1,000 miles across the Great Lakes region. Escarpment is a geological term for a landscape feature that is a steep cliff which is formed from slightly tilted layers of rock. The cliff face forms when erosive rocks, such as shale, erode away while less erosive rock, like limestone, lying on top of the shale, remain intact.
