“What is the essence of life? To serve others and to do good.” These words, spoken by Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, is one of the most ancient quotes about volunteering.
Today, civic organizations in communities take this sentiment and apply it locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. These organizations are operated exclusively for educational or charitable purposes. Comprised of passionate volunteers, organizations including the Juneau Victorians 4-H Club, Ledgeview Home and Community Education Club and Mayville Open Door, serve their communities and are now Blue Zones Project supporting organizations.
