The Queen's Medical Center - West O‘ahu Kicks Off Their Health and Wellness Fair with a Twist
While the the pandemic has put a halt on many in-person events over the past year, The Queen's Medical Center - West O‘ahu (QMC West) found new ways to keep their employees connected and healthy!
The Certified Blue Zones Worksite® kicked off their annual Health and Wellness Fair in February with a twist. This historically one-day health fair celebration took form over 6 weeks this year to accommodate all employees with physical distancing. The health and wellness fair included free BMI and Blood Pressure screenings as well as the promotion of the Sharecare RealAge Test – the health risk assessment that measures your RealAge as opposed to your calendar age based on your health choices. The first 50 employees to complete both the screening and the RealAge Test received a free fitness tracker to support and further encourage their well-being goals. QMC West also recognizes the importance of employee health checks and included the added bonus of a grand prize drawing when at least 300 employees completed both steps.
During the 6 weeks, QMC West also launched new Blue Zones Project Moais including hula, stretching, inspiration walks, and biking – encouraging employees to move more naturally throughout their day. Employees were also encouraged to bring in any extra seeds or plants from home for a Seed Swap with co-workers. A great way to learn about new plants and to start a small garden at home!

The Dining Room at QMC West is a Blue Zones Project Approved™ restaurant and launched four new Blue Zones® inspired menu items to celebrate the Health and Wellness Fair. Employees were encouraged to participate in the ‘Blue Challenge’ and try each dish along with one other vegetarian or vegan dish to earn a free meal coupon. Some of the new dishes included a Blue Market Veggie Bagel and Blue Vegetarian Loco Moco – Brown Rice, Tofu Scramble, Vegetarian Sausage and Vegan Brown Gravy (pictured below).
To celebrate the conclusion of the Health and Wellness Fair, QMC West provided gift bags to all employees with health and wellness information and giveaways. While this past year has caused many events to be cancelled or rescheduled, it is important to continue to focus on employee engagement and health and well-being initiatives through worksite well-being programs and QMC West offered a creative way for employees to get involved!
