Blue Zones Project is on the road, touring several towns throughout Koolaupoko. We made our first stop in Kahaluu on Saturday, May 21, where we celebrated with the Kahaluu community at KEY Project and shared the Power 9® - the nine secrets to longevity from around the world where people live happier and healthier, longer. Adults and keiki alike enjoyed gardening demos, live entertainment, healthy foods, free massages, yoga and Zumba.
SAVE THE DATE! Our next stop will be in Kaneohe on Saturday, June 4, from 10 a.m.- 2p.m. at Windward Mall center court. Come out to this free, family-friendly event and experience Blue Zones Project with your ohana!

Earlier this month, members of the Blue Zones Project Koolaupoko Schools committee held a Wellness Resource Fair at the Castle Medical Center auditorium - the first of its kind in Koolaupoko. The event connected schools with non-profit organizations in our commuity to help them make healthy choices easier for our keiki.
The organizations that participated were Alliance for a Healthier Generation, Fire Up Your Feet, Hawaii 5210, Hawaii Child Nutrition Programs, Hawaii Keiki Nurse, Oahu Fresh, Hawaii Bicycling League, Hawaii Ag Foundation, Kokua Hawaii Foundation, Playworks and the Department of Public Health Nurse.
A special thank you to Complex Area Superintendent Lanell Hibbs for supporting and promoting this Wellness Resource Fair. Also a heart-felt mahalo to Ruby Hayasaka and her team at Castle Medical Center for graciously providing delicious healthy refreshments for all of us.

DOZENS PARTICIPATE IN KANEOHE WALKING MOAI LAUNCH
On Sunday, May 15, we held our first Walking Moai launch in Kaneohe. Many came out to build friendships with those in their community while exploring their neighborhoods. A total of four teams were formed, and we are excited to follow thier moai journey in the coming weeks!
Walking Moai’s, which are like a hui, are groups of five to eight people who walk together at least once a week for 10 weeks to various areas throughout the community.
The term “moai” comes from Okinawa, Japan.
It means “meeting for a common purpose.” It originated as
a way for villagers to support each other in good times and bad. Moai Walking Teams encourage that same social support while adding the physical benefits of walking.
Missed the launch, and are interested in joining a group?Email bluezonesprojectkoolaupoko@healthways.com or call Vanessa Stewart at (808) 564-4767 to join one!
