Castle Medical Center Becomes Blue Zones Project Approved
Congratulations to Castle Medical Center for becoming the very first community-based Blue Zones Project Approved™ worksite! From the transformation of its cafeteria, The Bistro, to a rooftop garden and more, Castle Medical Center has successfully made the healthy choice, the easy choice for the hospital's employees and patients.
Located just outside of Kailua, Castle Medical Center has more than 1,000 employees and is staffed by 300 physicians. The hospital is owned and operated by Adventist Health, a Seventh-day Adventist health care system.
One of the five original Blue Zones is Loma Linda, CA, a town that has a large concentration of Seventh-day Adventists where people live up to 10 years longer than the average American. Their religion supports a healthy lifestyle - they put "Family First", have a "Plant Slant" diet, and every Saturday, they practice the Sabbath by spending time "Downshifting" to relieve stress.
As a Seventh-day Adventist hospital, Castle Medical Center and Blue Zones Project is a natural fit - it has been a pleasure collaborating together.
On behalf of Blue Zones Project, congratulations again to Castle Medical Center!

KEY Project Launches First Walking Moai
KEY Project has taken a big step in launching the very first Walking Moai® in Koolaupoko. Regulars at KEY Project's Kupuna Breakfast formed two teams and are walking for at least 30 minutes on Monday and Tuesday mornings around Kahaluu Regional Park. Be sure to cheer them on as they "Move Naturally" towards reaching the 10-week finish line.
KEY Project is a non-profit organization serving the 96744 community and the extended area from Kaneohe to Kahuku, providing programs and services of their own and others through partnerships in the community.
Community walking groups are an amazing way to get more exercise and build unique friendships. Check out our event calendar and loook for the next Walking Moai Kickoff where you can join and meet your own personal board of directors!
Leahi Health in Kailua Celebrates Blue Zones Project Approved Status
Koolaupoko now has two Blue Zones Project Approved™ restaurants, after Leahi Health in Kailua achieved the status this month, following Big City Diner, also in Kailua.
Leahi Health celebrated becoming a Blue Zones Project Approved restaurant with the entire community on Saturday, February 13. Attendees enjoyed samples of the eatery's popular Surfer Bowl, as well as live Hawaiian music by Joe Kingston. As part of the recognition ceremony, our team rang a blue cow bell - a Healthways tradition to mark major milestones.
Be sure to visit Leahi Health and try one of its tasty menu items! Snap a pic, and share it with us on our Facebook or Instagram page. We'd love to see which food or drink is your favorite!

Purpose Workshops
Why does purpose matter? Knowing and using your gifts and strengths is called "living with purpose" or "doing one’s life work." People with purpose live longer, are happier and more productive. Are you making a difference where you live and work? Each person has an individual set of strengths and talents that can be used to lead a truly meaningful life. Whatever your role within your community, begin adding years to your life and life to your years.
We encourage you to attend a Purpose Workshop to discover or renew your true purpose - that unique thing that makes you your best. In fact, knowing your purpose could add up to 7 years to your life! Begin the new year by doing something important for you, so that you can start to live a happier, more fulfilling life.
We have a FREE Purpose Workshop coming up:
Monday, March 146 - 8:30 p.m.
