All three Kalapawai Café & Deli locations are now Blue Zones Project Approved^™ restaurants – Kailua Beach, Kailua Town and, most recently, Kapolei!

Kalapawai Café & Deli in Kapolei is a family business known to be warm and welcoming. Their signature look pays homage to small town markets and is a symbol of simpler times. They focus on the local lifestyle and take pride in serving dishes made from produce grown locally.

The Kapolei location began their process to becoming a Blue Zones Project Approved restaurant in late 2018 after Chef Jason was featured in a cooking demonstration for the DOE Campbell-Kapolei Complex Area staff. His preparation of the Hummus Veggie Wrap, a Blue Zones Project Approved dish, was a big hit.

As a contributor of community well-being, Kalapawai Café & Deli implemented new pledge actions in addition to an impressive list of operationalized healthy best practices. One new action that is a small, but highly effective nudge is their practice of offering healthy side dishes first. The simple act of offering salad as the default side dish encourages customers to make the healthy choice. Menu options have not changed, the only change is how they are offered.
