Making Healthy Choices Easier Starts with You

As you’ve heard, the Kapolei-Ewa, Manoa-Makiki-McCully-Moiliili, and Wahiawa communities were announced as new Blue Zones Project Demonstration Communities on Oahu in January 2017. Since then, Blue Zones Project has been working with community leaders to better understand the current environment and create a strong foundation for the plan to make these communities a happier, healthier place to live and work! Now we need your help!

Brought to Hawaii by HMSA, Blue Zones Project focuses on making the healthy choice the easy choice in the places we live, work and play. As part of HMSA’s initiative to improve statewide well-being, they are passionate about the small changes being implemented in all eight communities across Hawaii.  These communities were chosen because of the strong leadership and community support and excitement to transform our town into a Blue Zones Project Community!

Blue Zones Project along side community leaders will be hosting a series of community input meetings to gather information on what is currently happening and to identify opportunities to make Blue Zones Project successful.  Input from these community gatherings drives the direction for Blue Zones Project work within the community. As part of our mission to make the healthy choice the easy choice, we are actively engaging with worksites, schools, restaurants, grocery stores, faith-based organizations and civic groups in the area. You can look forward to seeing healthier menu options at local restaurants, grocery stores with Blue Zones Project checkout lanes offering fresh fruits and healthy snacks, worksites making it easier for their employees to live longer, better and school communities working to ensure our keiki live long, active lives.
