2022 ‘Aha Lōkahi: Hawai‘i CommUNITY Conference
The Hawai‘i Afterschool Alliance is excited to present the 2022 ‘Aha Lōkahi: Hawai‘i CommUNITY Conference, an in-person conference on August 26-27, 2022 at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
This year's theme, "Ua Ola Loko i ke Aloha: Thriving Youth Starts with Us" (Love gives life within. Love is imperative to one's mental and physical welfare. #2836), recognizes the need for love and care for ourselves in order to love and care for the youth and families we serve. Through interactive workshops, site visits, and hands-on activities, this conference will focus on ways to nurture our well-being as well as strategies and best practices to support our children and the well-being of youth. This conference is for afterschool and youth development professionals, educators, administrators, and other community members who are dedicated to supporting Hawaiʻi’s children and youth. Use promo code Early10 for $10 off your Individual or Friday only registration if you register by August 5 (see instructions on how to apply the promo code). Questions? Contact hawaii4ost@gmail.com.

What's happening in our schools to support wellness?
Safer Streets at Keaukaha Elementary School
Keaukaha Elementary School completed its quick build project!! This included painting bulb outs on three corners of the intersection and placement of delineators around the entire area for safer walking. The project was done with support from the County of Hawai’i Planning Department, Keaukaha Community Association, Blue Zones Project – Hawaii, PATH, HIPHI, SSFM and Department of Health. KA HELENA A‘O: THE LEARNING WALK
In May 2016, Ted Dintersmith, Producer of the documentary, Most Likely To Succeed, completed his tour of schools across all 50 states with a visit to Hawai‘i. After speaking with the Governor, the Superintendent, and other community leaders, and after visiting with numerous students, teachers, and administrators, Ted concluded that Hawai‘i could lead the way in moving education forward in ways that will engage, inspire, and celebrate student ingenuity, passion, and excellence. Check out The Learning Walk video by Kelsie Matsu, and consider joining the What Schools Could Be (WSCB), an online community that recently shared stories of learning walks that led to small steps towards big changes. WSCB is a platform that offers educators professional development, based on work in the field, whose confidence-building steps will unleash student—and teacher—potential. Click here to join.
