Volunteers 'Move Naturally'
by pedaling their way
down the parade route.

Other volunteers took strides and
marched with
Blue Zones Project
pride.

We had a blast biking, walking,
sign-waving, and most of all,
spreading the word about
making healthy choices easier!

On Monday, July 4, Blue Zones Project participated in the 70th Annual Kailua Independence Day Parade hosted by the Kailua Chamber of Commerce. 45 volunteers and three dogs celebrated life and liberty in the pursuit of well-being, while sharing the Blue Zones Project message with aloha!  Volunteers pedaled our decorated 15-passenger bike float, held banners and signs, and passed out Power 9 fans and stickers. All in all, it was a great time...so great that our spirited group won First Place in Best Use of Theme!

Mahalo to all who volunteered to participate with us!

BLUE ZONES PROJECT FARM TOUR & HEALTHY COOKING CLASS DRAWS DOZENS

Farm_Tour_4.jpg Farm_Tour_6.jpg Farm_Tour_5.jpg Farm_Tour_7.jpg

This summer, Blue Zones Project launched its first Farm Tour & Healthy Cooking Class in partnership with Green Rows Farm in Waimanalo.  More than three dozen residents attended the event.  Sean Anderson of Green Rows Farm led a tour of his property and then harvested freshly grown organic fruits and vegetables for our very own Chef Cyrus Howe to demonstrate cooking a delicious meal.  Attendees learned about organic farming and composting, as well as how to prepare a hearty and delicious Eggs Benedict using farm fresh eggs from Green Rows Farm.

Our next Farm Tour & Cooking Class will be on Saturday, July 23. The event is full so registration is now closed, but stay tuned for future farm tour and cooking class combo events to come!

BLUE ZONES PROJECT PARTICIPATES IN WINDWARD OAHU RELAY FOR LIFE

On Saturday, July 9, Blue Zones Project participated in the Windward Oahu Relay for Life at Kailua High School.

Our small but mighty team was made up mostly of Blue Zones Project staff. We enjoyed moving naturally around the track, getting our steps in, socializing with community members, and hearing inspirational stories of courage and hope from cancer survivors and fighters.

We were honored to support the American Cancer Society and encouraged by all of the volunteers at the event who live with such great purpose. It truly was a night to remember.
