Congratulations Team Sure Blue!
East Hawaii's very first Walking Moai crossed the finish line early this month after walking together for at least 30 minutes each week for 10 weeks. Even after reaching their goal of ten weeks, team Sure Blue plans to continue walking weekly as friends. Susan Kaneshiro from team Sure Blue expressed, "the friendships that were formed from our walking moai are priceless!"
Team Sure Blue formed after Sure Foundation Church in Puna held a Moai Launch for its members in early February. We have thoroughly enjoyed watching their progress - the team sure picked some stunningly scenic spots to walk! Just check out their pictures!
A big high five and round of applause to all the members of Team Sure Blue who happily laced up their shoes to take part in Sure Foundation Puna's Walking Moai!

Down Shifting with Mindfulness and Meditation
There was a wonderful turnout of folks who wanted to learn how to "Down Shift" and live life with less stress during a Mindfulness and Meditation Workshop held by meditation expert, Kathy Cheney. Participants gathered at the Hawaii County Office of Aging as Cheney guided them into a relaxed state via meditation, which is known to promote healing, reduces stress and anxiety, and lower high blood pressure.

Did you know? The world's longest lived people have daily routines to shed stress, a major contributor to inflammation and disease. While no one is immune to stress, people in Blue Zones® areas have regular routines to shed it. Adventists pray, Ikarians nap, and Sardinians enjoy social hour.
Pick a de-stressing strategy that works for you and put it into practice. Try designating a space in your home for quiet time, meditation, or prayer. Or establish time to down shift with members of your inner circle. Ask your ohana to join you for a walk, game night, or pau hana using this handy, customizable invitation.
Down Shift and Live Longer, Better Today!
Chef Malu's First Cooking Class a Huge Hit!
On March 23, Chef Malu Miki of Abundant Life Natural Foods kicked off her first class in a series of FREE Blue Zones Project Cooking Demos, and she sure packed a powerful "Plant Slant" punch with her impressive culinary skills!

East Hawaii residents gathered at the University of Hawaii Komohana Research Extension Center in Hilo and learned how to create different types of recipes using non-dairy nut milks made of almonds and macadamia nuts. She even whipped up some ono Superfood Truffles with the leftover almonds, and taught us how to make a tasty veggie stir-fry with an almond crème (alfredo) sauce.
A special mahalo to Chef Malu for showing us how to make healthy, tasty! Her next cooking class will be held in the same place on Wednesday, May 11 beginning at 5:15 p.m.
Shortly after the cooking class, we will have a Blue Zones Project Moai Launch where you'll be able to form a team that you can either walk or potluck with at least once a week for 10 weeks. It's a great way to meet new friends and stay healthy!
