Luis's story is a powerful reminder that living with purpose doesn’t just change your life—it inspires others to do the same. Through his work, mentorship, and family, Luis continues to make a positive impact in the Marysville community and beyond.

Luis Martinez knows firsthand the power of purpose, because he's living it every day, guiding young athletes to reach their full potential. As a Community Schools Site Coordinator for the Marysville Unified School District, a father, and a professional athlete, Luis is shaping young lives both on and off the field.

His journey with soccer began at just 9 or 10 years old, sparking a love for the game that would take him across the world and shape his perspective on life. That passion eventually led him to Costa Rica—one of the original Blue Zones—where he spent eight months in his early 20s playing professional soccer.

It was there that Luis experienced the Blue Zones lifestyle firsthand. Life moved at a different pace—one that prioritized relationships, movement, and community. He walked to the stadium each day, lingered after practice to bond with teammates, and embraced a rhythm of life that felt deeply fulfilling. Living with a local host family further enriched his experience. They welcomed him as one of their own, reinforcing the importance of family, connection, and belonging—values at the heart of Blue Zones cultures. To this day, he remains close with his Costa Rican family, a testament to the deep relationships formed through shared purpose.

Now, as the head coach at Lindhurst High School, Luis is passing on the lessons he’s learned. He’s not just coaching soccer—he’s mentoring young athletes to dream big, embrace teamwork, and challenge themselves both physically and mentally.

“What I love most about soccer is the camaraderie, the competitiveness, and the challenge of pushing yourself,” Luis shares. His players are gaining far more than technical skills—they’re learning resilience, leadership, and the power of community.

At home, Luis’s passion for soccer is becoming a family tradition. His 5-year-old son Leonel and 2-year-old son Santiago are already kicking the ball, and he hopes to pass on more than just skills—he wants them to grow up embracing purpose, movement, and meaningful relationships.

Whether on the field, in the classroom, or with his family, Luis Martinez is living the Blue Zones principles every day. By pursuing his passions with purpose, he’s creating a ripple effect—one that builds a healthier, happier community for generations to come.
