Skidmore Park in North Grand Forks is undergoing a revitalization effort led by the University Park Neighborhoods Association and fueled by community collaboration from partners like Blue Zones Project Grand Forks, the Grand Forks Park District, and Grand Forks City Planning Department.
Recognizing Skidmore Park's potential as a central gathering place for diverse neighborhood residents, discussions began among community leaders and locals about necessary improvements. These conversations highlighted the need for upgraded playground equipment, improved lighting for safety, and enhanced landscaping to create a more inviting environment.

The project gained momentum with the involvement of the Blue Zones Project, which shares a commitment to promoting healthier lifestyles and fostering community engagement. Through financial support from the Community Foundation of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Region, and volunteer efforts from community members, the park's transformation began with a cleanup event in September. This event not only cleared debris but also symbolized a community coming together to beautify and revitalize a shared space.
Moving forward, the revitalization of Skidmore Park aims not only to improve physical aspects but also to strengthen social connections and community pride. By integrating Blue Zones principles, such as promoting active living and enhancing public spaces, the initiative seeks to create a park that serves as a hub for recreation, social interaction, and improved quality of life in North Grand Forks.
