How Blue Zones Project Enriches Culture and Builds Community
What gets you out of bed every morning? Who in your life supports healthy choices?
Activating people—that is, getting people involved, informed, and excited about their role in a thriving community—is a key component of Blue Zones Project® by Sharecare, a community-led well-being improvement initiative that helps transform environments for improved well-being.
Connecting people with their purpose, and with one another, helps each person live longer, better and sets strong foundations for sustained community changes that benefit everyone.
Finding Your Purpose
Knowing your “why” is a key factor in well-being. Blue Zones Project hosts purpose workshops in which participants explore their passions, talents, and values to uncover their sense of purpose. These insights help people find ways to put their purpose to work in the community.
Moais
In the blue zone of Okinawa, Japan, the tradition of the Moai® (/mo,eye/) is the basis of lifelong connections that support longevity. The term Moai refers to a group of lifelong friends, or a social support group that gathers for a common purpose. Blue Zones Project facilitates Moai groups around shared healthy meals, volunteering, walking and civic groups.
“Participating in the Moai, in some ways, was life-saving for me.”
- Kathlynn Stone, Blue Zones Project Participant, Fort Worth, Texas
Volunteering
Volunteering through Blue Zones Project allows people to forge social connections, pursue their purpose and enrich their lives and the lives of others in their community.
Cooking Demonstrations
Blue Zones Project gives people the tools to adopt wise eating habits through cooking demonstrations that make plant-based diets more accessible.
When all these things come together, what results is a healthier culture that embraces principles for living longer, better.
